SELECTING THE MOST APPROPRIATE LEVEL FOR YOUTH (5-14 year olds)

Generally speaking, the most appropriate class for tennis until the age 10 or 11 is by age.  Kids will feel more comfortable with kids close to their own age.  Skill level within the age group will differ but usually not to a significant extent.  Around the age of 10 or 11, some kids either mature a little earlier or might have a “head start” with previous experience.  Therefore, we offer different levels of classes based on ability.  Please note that the exceptional 10 year old may participate at a higher level with instructors’ approval

  1. Kids 5-7 year olds should take the Terrific Tiny Tennis classes.
  2. Most 8 and 10 year olds should enroll in the Quickstart Tennis classes.  However, experienced 10 year olds with instructor’s approval may participate in the Novice or Intermediate classes.  Beginning 11 year olds may also participate in Quickstart Tennis especially if they are small for their age.
  3. Most 11-14 year olds should start at the Junior Novice level until their skill level warrants them to move up to the Junior Low Intermediate or Junior Intermediate classes.  Intermediate players are able to rally consistently at a slow to medium pace or better from the baseline & net, and are able to produce a consistent medium pace or better serve.  Parents should ask the instructor before moving up.
  4. Please note that we have a one year stretch on all classes.  For example, a 7 year old or an 11 year old may participate in the Quickstart Tennis class for 8-10 year olds.
